Students can pursue academic studies through two specialized programs: Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Ergonomics. For those focusing on Industrial Hygiene, two certificate options offer targeted training in Hazardous Substances and Biomonitoring.
Faculty in the Environmental and Occupational Hygiene division lead research initiatives with national and international recognition, covering the comprehensive spectrum of identifying, assessing, and managing workplace and environmental hazards. Their research focuses on diverse areas including chemical and biological aerosol sampling methods, exposure-effect biomarker correlations, links between occupational exposures and chronic conditions like silicosis and lung cancer, workplace ergonomics, biomechanics, safety protocols, impacts of physical/chemical hazards on neuromuscular function, historical and contemporary exposure analysis, lead exposure characterization, environmental intervention research, and neurobehavioral effects of toxic chemicals. Master's students engage in original research projects that contribute to their chosen specialization.
