The Systems Engineering and Design (SED) program is an interdisciplinary field focused on understanding how components interact within complex systems. It combines foundational sciences, engineering principles, and design methodologies. Students enjoy curricular flexibility through Secondary Field Options while gaining a holistic engineering perspective and decision-making skills for system-wide design. Systems Engineers learn to harmonize interconnected elements while considering economic and practical limitations. The program prioritizes hands-on design experience and project management, woven throughout the curriculum to develop cross-disciplinary problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and teamwork proficiency. A key component is the Senior Project Course, where undergraduates tackle authentic industry challenges in collaboration with faculty and corporate partners. This culminating experience concludes with a comprehensive written report and formal presentation of actionable solutions to sponsoring organizations.
