Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary and collaborative field that integrates mathematics, engineering, social and physical sciences, and medicine. This program equips you with the necessary tools to conceptualize solutions for large-scale challenges across various domains. You will acquire substantial experience in teamwork-based problem-solving, preparing you for diverse career paths such as those in future energy infrastructure, smart urban development, healthcare decision-making, data analysis and decision processes, and infrastructure cybersecurity.
Students in this program learn theoretical concepts, computational techniques, and research methodologies within core areas like optimization, network theory, and uncertainty quantification, enabling them to devise solutions for overarching issues in multiple fields. Instances encompass tracking and simulating the COVID-19 pandemic, improving hospital resource distribution, enhancing fair access to food supplies, and creating integrated, hazard-resistant, and cyber-secure infrastructure, energy networks, and smart urban environments. Participants will develop considerable expertise in cooperative problem-solving, beneficial for a wide array of professions, including roles in upcoming energy systems, intelligent city planning, healthcare choices, data extraction and decision support, and infrastructure cyber protection.
From bridges to skyscrapers, from space missions to artificial limbs, structural engineers create and construct the internal frameworks that enable these structures to bear loads and function in their surroundings. Faculty in the department deliver innovative solutions for structures that optimize performance, manage uncertainties, and ensure durability and high efficiency under various threats. The program excels in areas such as seismic engineering, fire safety engineering, probabilistic mechanics and structural dependability, optimization techniques, and lightweight steel construction.
