This program prepares aspiring special education teachers at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Participants can earn either a Bachelor of Science or Master of Education degree while qualifying for Illinois' Learning and Behavior Specialist I (LBSI) initial teaching credential. The full-time, on-campus curriculum at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign develops skilled, forward-thinking special educators. Over four years, students complete the program with both a bachelor's degree and LBSI certification, enabling them to instruct students aged 3-21 with various disabilities across educational environments. Admission to student teaching requires passing an Illinois-approved basic skills assessment, which may include the TAP, ACT, SAT, or legacy basic skills tests with qualifying scores.
