Training future teachers to educate K-12 students with mild to severe disabilities. As a UD Intervention Specialist student, you'll acquire essential teaching techniques for students with varying disability levels through academic instruction in child development and subject matter, hands-on clinical practice, and community involvement initiatives. You'll develop insights into working with students across different age groups, developmental phases, cultural backgrounds, economic circumstances, ethnicities, and ability spectrums. You can enhance your teaching certification with specialized endorsements in early childhood special education, urban teaching, Catholic school education, English language learner instruction, or specific training for supporting students with Dyslexia. Access exceptional resources including a STEM laboratory and Curriculum Materials Center.
Field observations and practical experiences start in your first year and progress through years two and three. You'll complete over 600 hours in local school settings - doubling Ohio's 300-hour minimum requirement. Your final year includes a full-time student teaching placement with guided supervision and assessment to foster your professional growth as an educator.
