Graduates of this program will be eligible for Learning Behavior Specialist I certification. Coursework in the major generally starts during the first year and progressively intensifies through the fourth year. The program includes hands-on experience evaluating and teaching children with special needs across diverse school environments. A mandatory 16-week student teaching component is divided evenly between elementary and secondary education levels. Program completers will be certified to teach students with special needs from kindergarten through age 21 as LBS I educators. Admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) is required for all majors, along with successful completion of all TEP and departmental standards to maintain program eligibility. Participants have the option to pursue combined certification in both Special Education and Elementary Education.
