This certification program equips future teachers with essential knowledge and skills for working with students who have disabilities in inclusive classroom environments. Ideal for NIU education majors not specializing in special education, the curriculum explores how disabilities affect learning and provides strategies to support student success. Participants must finish all coursework at NIU within a three-year period. Candidates need to submit an official application to the undergraduate advisor in the Department of Special and Early Education and fulfill all program requirements before the certification appears on academic records. Note: This program does not qualify participants for special education licensure.

Qualification Requirements

High School Diploma: You must have graduated by the time you start at NIU in order to be admitted. Grades: You must have passing grades equivalent to a U.S. C plus average on all transcripts and/or exam scores.The ACT or SAT is required for international freshmen applicants from U.S. high schools.
