Graduates of this program will be eligible for Learning Behavior Specialist I certification. Coursework in the major generally starts during the first year and progressively intensifies through the fourth year. Participants engage in evaluating and teaching children with special needs across diverse school environments. The program mandates a 16-week student teaching experience, evenly split between elementary and secondary education. After completing the program, graduates will be certified to teach students with special needs from kindergarten through age 21 as LBS I educators. Admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) is required for all majors, along with meeting all TEP and departmental standards to remain in the program. A combined certification option is available for both Special Education and Elementary Education.
