DePaul's Special Education program equips you to educate students with diverse needs from kindergarten through age 21 across urban and suburban environments, including both public and private institutions.
Earning your bachelor's degree in Special Education qualifies you for Illinois' Learning and Behavior Specialist I (LBS1) certification, assuming you fulfill all state-mandated criteria.
The curriculum includes two hands-on courses at the College of Education's Education and Counseling Center, concentrating on reading and mathematics instruction. During these courses, you'll provide direct support to community learners facing academic challenges. Additionally, you'll undertake two practicum experiences (totaling 70 field hours) with accompanying seminars: one addressing high-incidence disabilities in inclusive classrooms, and another focusing on low-incidence disabilities in specialized settings.
