The Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education equips future educators for teaching grades one through six. Graduation requires completing at least 120 semester credit hours.
Aspiring teachers in the College of Education (COE) must fulfill sequential gateway requirements, which include passing specific courses, maintaining required GPAs, completing clinical experiences, and passing licensure exams. Satisfying all Gateway criteria results in both degree completion and licensure eligibility.
The program provides comprehensive knowledge in Education. Candidates will apply Illinois' Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading (CRTL) standards throughout their coursework and field training. They'll develop professional competencies essential for educational careers, including equity-focused collaboration, community engagement, reflective teaching, and mastery of 21st century educational approaches.
