The Urban Education program with an Elementary Education focus prepares students to excel as certified teachers. By combining academic coursework with practical experience, participants in this program empower young learners in city schools to reach their highest capabilities.
In their last two years of study, known as the Candidacy phase, Urban Education majors enhance their abilities through immersive fieldwork. They gain exposure to Chicago's varied neighborhoods, shadow veteran instructors, benefit from guidance by master educators, create teaching materials, and ultimately take charge of their own classes.
First-year applicants are currently enrolled in high school or have not attended college since graduation.
