This highly regarded elementary education curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning, blending theoretical understanding with extensive practical experience in actual schools.
Aspiring educators for preK-6th grade can obtain certification within four years, providing a cost-effective route into the teaching profession.
Prospective students must transfer into this program and may apply during their first or second year at UVA or when transferring from another college.
Candidates should be progressing toward completing the specialized general studies prerequisites for teacher education, which differ from those in the College of Arts and Sciences or the School of Education and Human Development.
While completing all requirements beforehand isn't mandatory, second-year applicants aiming to start in their third year are advised to be close to finishing these prerequisites.
Alumni of this program qualify for automatic acceptance into certain UVA graduate programs for five years following graduation.
