The Advanced Standing program offers face-to-face, hybrid, and online enrollment options. The face-to-face AS program is a full-time, one-year commitment (38 semester credit hours), starting in fall and completing coursework and field requirements over two semesters. Hybrid and online AS students follow a part-time, two-year schedule. All advanced standing students must complete two field practicum courses (500 clock hours). Enrollment model tabs provide detailed program plans.
Macro Practice equips students for professional leadership in urban environments serving diverse, vulnerable populations. This specialization develops core competencies for community, organizational, societal, and global interventions, preparing graduates for leadership roles as advocates, managers, researchers, policy analysts, and capacity builders in both public and private sectors.
Building on the GCSW's pioneering legacy in political social work, the Political Social Work specialization leverages unique opportunities like the Austin Legislative Internship Program and our distinction as the sole social work program with a Nobel Peace Laureate faculty member. Students gain expertise in local, national, and global advocacy through faculty mentorship, emerging as skilled community organizers, policy experts, and legislative professionals. This specialization integrates political advocacy across all practice levels to advance social, economic, and political justice for marginalized groups. Graduates pursue careers in both clinical and macro practice settings.
