Baylor University's George W. Truett Theological Seminary and Diana R. Garland School of Social Work provide a combined degree program designed to equip students for leadership roles within faith-based organizations, churches, and religious communities. Religious institutions (including family services, senior care programs, urban outreach initiatives, and global mission efforts) frequently require trained social work professionals. Additionally, many congregations benefit from the guidance and expertise in family and community services that qualified social workers offer. In numerous faith-based contexts, holding an MDiv enhances a social worker's qualifications for ministerial roles. Frequently, an MDiv or similar theological graduate degree is mandatory for pastoral leadership roles or executive positions at religious organizations. This dual degree program develops expertise in both disciplines. Students complete their studies with an on-campus Capstone Seminar during their final month.
