The Grace Abbott School of Social Work provides a Master of Social Work (MSW) program focusing on a single specialization: advanced generalist practice. This comprehensive curriculum equips students with the skills to work effectively with diverse populations including individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. The program combines essential coursework in clinical, community, and policy practice with elective options that allow students to deepen their expertise in specific interest areas. This MSW program meets the educational requirements for professional social work licensure across the United States.
Students in the advanced generalist track develop expertise in multiple areas including individual and group therapy, mental health assessment, community development, policy analysis, research methodologies, and leadership within social service organizations. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, policy engagement, and program improvement strategies. Prospective students can enroll either at the foundation level (63 credits) for those without a social work background, or the advanced standing level (39 credits) for graduates holding a recent BSSW degree or equivalent foundation coursework.
