The Doctor of Philosophy in Youth Development and Family Sciences equips students to perform transformative research on youth, families, and their communities. This program trains graduates for faculty roles in disciplines like human development, family studies, child sciences, community development, and family consumer sciences, along with research careers in public and private organizations. Studies in this area examine how human development, family dynamics, and community environments shape the behavioral, psychological, and social-emotional health of young people across developmental stages. Students will learn to utilize this understanding when designing and assessing prevention initiatives and positive development programs.

Qualification Requirements

An official copy directly to the UF Office of Admissions, A copy (either official or unofficial) directly to Gregg Henderschiedt in the Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences. A recognized baccalaureate, graduate or professional degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution. Failure to provide transcripts to both offices can result in your application being delayed. Request both transcripts at least three weeks prior to the deadline (check with prior institutions as some require a longer period of time to process requests). If you currently attend UF or have in the past, you do not need to
submit transcripts for the coursework completed here

To be admitted, students must have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0, and a minimum graduate GPA of at least 3.3.

Applicants with a bachelor's degree only, a minimum grade point average of B (3.0), calculated from all grades and credits after the semester where the applicant reached 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours is required. For applicants from countries where English is not the ofcial language, a minimum score on one of these English Language Skills tests, IELTS - 6.0,TOEFL IBT- 80, PBT- 550.
