The University of Florida's Doctor of Audiology program is an on-campus graduate program designed to:
Equip students for professional careers in audiology
Offer diverse training in diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology practices
Develop the multifaceted skills needed to adapt to the evolving hearing healthcare industry
This four-year Au.D. program comprises 110 credit hours, blending clinical and academic studies in foundational sciences, applied audiology, clinical research, statistics, rehabilitation techniques, medical neuroscience, neuro-otology, cochlear implants, healthcare management, advanced hearing aid technology, counseling, and geriatric care. Graduates qualify for the ASHA's Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A), the American Academy of Audiology's Board Certification, and state audiology licensure.
The comprehensive curriculum covers core scientific principles, practical audiology applications, research methodologies, statistical analysis, rehabilitation strategies, neuroscience, otological disorders, implant technologies, pharmaceutical considerations, healthcare systems, modern hearing devices, therapeutic communication, aging-related disorders, and speech pathology. Clinical training occurs through practicums at UF Health locations (including the new UF Health: The Oaks center), the Health Science Center, and partner hospitals and clinics throughout North Florida and nationwide. The final year focuses on a full-time clinical externship in audiology.
Students must have a recognized baccalaureate, graduate or professional degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution. For applicants with a bachelor’s degree only, a minimum grade point average of B (3.0), calculated from all grades and credits after the semester where the applicant reached 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores that are acceptable to the applicant’s intended academic unit or, for select programs, at least 465 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
For applicants from countries (including Puerto Rico) where English is not the official language, a minimum score on one of these English Language Skills tests: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 550 paper, or 80 Internet; International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 77, or documented successful completion of the University of Florida English Language Institute program.
