The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences acknowledges that students may have academic and career aspirations spanning multiple fields, including disciplines not officially offered at the university. As interdisciplinary methods, studies, and programs grow more relevant and beneficial across liberal arts, sciences, and other areas, University of Florida students can create and follow individualized interdisciplinary (IDS) majors that bridge various academic domains.
Established in 1930, UF's Center for Latin American Studies ranks among the nation's most distinguished and comprehensive programs of its type. The university boasts nearly 180 faculty members with substantial teaching and research commitments focused on Latin America and the Caribbean. The George A. Smathers Library's Latin American Collection stands as one of America's rare independent archives, housing exceptional resources on Brazil, the Caribbean, and other Latin American regions.
