Recent decades have witnessed the rise of numerous intense debates surrounding culture, history, and social frameworks in the United States. Several elements have fueled these discussions: recognizing that American history is shaped by diverse peoples and perspectives, understanding that societal structures emerge from both conflict and agreement, observing how various academic fields have developed fresh approaches for examining U.S. society and culture, and acknowledging how shifting global dynamics influence national identities and traits.
This program seeks to cultivate a comprehensive grasp of U.S. societies and their regional counterparts: their foundations, historical trajectories, economic and political systems, belief systems, unique cultural expressions, international contexts and relationships, as well as their artistic and intellectual contributions. As an interdisciplinary field, American Studies allows students to craft personalized academic paths across multiple disciplines, providing them with expansive insights into the cultures, histories, and societies of the Western hemisphere.
