Pursuing an American studies degree means examining U.S. culture, heritage, customs, and national identity through multiple academic perspectives.
You'll investigate how Americans have lived and what they've valued, analyzing how the nation's essence has been reflected and defined through creative mediums like visual arts, cinema, musical works, and other cultural artifacts.
Our curriculum pushes students to enroll in diverse courses spanning numerous disciplines - from governmental systems and spiritual traditions to mass media and racial/ethnic research, to news reporting and legal studies. Numerous Brandeis scholars pursue dual degrees, combining American studies with another field like political science, historical research, or social sciences.
Alumni from our department have established careers in legal professions, media relations, corporate sectors, teaching, government initiatives, and creative industries.
