The American Studies program at OSU-Cascades aims to equip students with skills to inspire innovation across diverse fields such as business, education, creative arts, arts management, legal professions, healthcare, government work, and advanced humanities or social science studies. Our approach focuses on developing students' abilities to analyze texts carefully, communicate effectively, and thoughtfully examine matters of fairness, sustainability, and multicultural perspectives. We foster skills in analytical reasoning, global awareness, civic engagement, investigative methods, and adapting to our rapidly changing digital world. Our focus on textual analysis, clear communication, thoughtful consideration, analytical evaluation, scholarly investigation, and digital competence supports the objectives of the School of Writing, Literature, and Film. Through American studies, we instill analytical reasoning principles, pursue original discoveries, while bridging historical context with contemporary issues and future possibilities - using our understanding of history to illuminate current challenges and envision what lies ahead.
