Discover the rich heritage and traditions of African-descended populations across Africa, the U.S., and global diaspora communities. The interdisciplinary field of African American and African studies examines humanities, arts, and social sciences perspectives. This department enables students to examine the historical and cultural developments of African diaspora populations in America, Africa, and worldwide communities including Canada, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. Our program analyzes how socioeconomic, political, and institutional forces influence these communities' experiences. This academic discipline aims to highlight both the unique qualities and shared experiences of African-origin populations globally.
Our coursework integrates perspectives on African-descended communities throughout the Americas, Africa, and global diaspora regions including Canada, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. We investigate how institutional systems and socioeconomic conditions impact these populations. Special attention is given to artistic expressions and cultural manifestations within Black communities worldwide. Our diverse faculty bring multidisciplinary expertise and varied professional experiences to their research and teaching.
Freshman applicant will be completing or have completed secondary school and have not enrolled at any college or university.
