The Master of Music in Conducting program provides expert instruction in Western choral, orchestral, and wind performance traditions. Participants work directly with acclaimed ensembles in the stunning Gates Concert Hall, acquiring practical conducting experience. The curriculum encompasses all facets of musical direction, including non-performance elements like personnel management, music library coordination, audition processes, and musician recruitment. Through personalized lessons and group seminars, graduates emerge fully equipped to progress in their professional journeys.

This conducting degree offers three specialization tracks: choral, orchestral, or wind. Alongside intensive studies in their chosen focus, students take supplementary courses in musicology/ethnomusicology and music theory.

The program also requires completion of these non-classroom components:

A full-length conducting performance
Comprehensive written and oral examinations
Graduate-level competency assessments in musicology and theory
Regular attendance at convocation events
