The Bachelor of Music in Performance offers specialized training in Western classical music performance. Students gain intensive practical experience in their chosen discipline under the guidance of artist-educators committed to shaping successful musical careers. This competitive program combines conservatory-caliber instruction with a dynamic liberal arts university setting. Lamont's guitar department focuses on cultivating versatile musicians through challenging yet supportive training.
Lamont guitar students learn from acclaimed performers Jonathan Leathwood and Laura Husbands. Professor Leathwood stands among the rare guitarists who perform on both six-string and ten-string instruments, blending contemporary and classical pieces in his creative repertoire. An internationally accredited Alexander Technique instructor, he also edits Soundboard Scholar, the sole English-language peer-reviewed journal dedicated to guitar research. Professor Husbands, recipient of top honors in eleven international contests, has rapidly emerged as a prominent performer and educator. She directs the Denver Guitar Festival and Competition, an annual event that attracts world-renowned artists to Lamont.
