The English major provides a versatile, interdisciplinary curriculum designed to equip students for diverse career opportunities in fields such as business, law, government, science, the arts, healthcare, education, and digital media. Our program cultivates essential skills in clear writing, persuasive communication, and critical reading—attributes vital for leadership positions across various industries. The English Department offers an adaptable undergraduate structure where students select one course from each of three core study areas (totaling nine credits): Literary History, Textual Analysis and Production, and Cultural Diversity. Subsequently, students work closely with faculty advisors to select eight additional courses (24 credits) from our extensive departmental offerings. The program culminates in a senior-year capstone experience, with options including internships, portfolio development, symposium participation, independent research (three credits), thesis writing, or student teaching (for those pursuing English Education).
