After successfully finishing this degree program and submitting passing scores for the required licensing exams, you'll be eligible for initial teacher certification from the Hawaii Teachers Standards Board (HTSB), qualifying you to teach grades 6-12 in general education settings. The undergraduate programs combine a robust liberal arts curriculum with professional education coursework, subject-area specialization, teaching methodology training, and hands-on classroom experience. To enroll in most teacher preparation courses, students must achieve classified status within the College of Education, with many courses additionally requiring admission to State Approved Teacher Education Programs (SATEP). Detailed requirements for both elementary and secondary Bachelor of Education programs, along with SATEP criteria, can be obtained from the College of Education's Office of Student Academic Services (OSAS). All degree candidates must complete the program requirements current during their admission semester, while licensure seekers must satisfy SATEP standards in effect at their program admission date. Note that SATEP requirements are subject to modification by the HTSB, and candidates must fulfill all licensure criteria applicable at their graduation date.
