The Philosophy Department's program explores key areas of modern philosophical inquiry while examining significant historical periods in philosophy. The department has particular expertise in philosophy of mind and life sciences philosophy. For details about faculty specializations, visit the department's website. The Philosophy Ph.D. program features two pathways: the Traditional Track and the Sciences Track, with the latter combining scientific study with interdisciplinary dissertation work.
With intentionally limited enrollment, the graduate program fosters strong faculty-student collaboration. Recent years have seen nearly equal numbers of faculty and funded graduate students. The department regularly welcomes renowned guest speakers and organizes an annual themed colloquium featuring approximately twelve specialists in a focused philosophical area.
