The doctoral program in rhetoric and composition equips students for academic research, teaching roles, writing center leadership, and professional opportunities beyond academia. Specialized study options cover composition instruction methodologies, theoretical frameworks, historical perspectives, rhetorical approaches (including feminist, affective, and materialist theories), visual communication strategies, research methodologies, writing program management, educational policy & higher education leadership, and cross-disciplinary writing initiatives. Situated within the English Department, the program offers synergistic possibilities to combine rhetoric studies with professional writing, critical analysis, creative writing, and literary scholarship. We strive to develop skilled professionals capable of thriving in varied academic settings with multifaceted approaches to pedagogy and scholarship, as well as in professional environments that prize research, instructional, and organizational expertise.
