The German studies program offers an interdisciplinary approach, exploring the language, traditions, history, governance, and literary works of Germany and other German-speaking regions, along with their cultural impact across Europe and globally. At UC's Department of German Studies, we concentrate on modern Germany - an economic powerhouse and key EU leader. Yet we recognize that comprehending present-day Germany requires examining its historical roots. Our curriculum spans from medieval times to the modern era, covering diverse subjects and literary works. We also highlight German culture's influence on Cincinnati, making German-American studies a core part of our program.
Students pursuing German majors or minors can expand their perspectives through coursework, study-abroad experiences, and engagement with distinguished faculty and international guest speakers. These opportunities help cultivate valuable skills that enhance personal growth and prepare students to foster global understanding in their future careers and communities.
