Biology explores living organisms, both ancient and modern. The College's faculty maintains that a solid foundation in biology is crucial for comprehending ourselves and our environment, while also addressing critical challenges humanity faces and contributing to potential solutions. Our program provides instruction across diverse disciplines, ranging from theoretical to applied biology, and from the molecular and genetic foundations of life to intricate ecosystem dynamics. As part of a leading research university, all Biological Sciences Collegiate Division courses emphasize scientific inquiry, investigation, and breakthroughs. The Biological Sciences curriculum aims to provide students with: (1) knowledge of established biological principles and their experimental validation, and (2) awareness of existing knowledge gaps and potential research avenues in the discipline. Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science with Research Honors (Research Honors): The Biology Research Honors distinction recognizes exceptional students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance in their major coursework and produce novel, publication-worthy research. Honors candidates will: (1) develop expertise in a specialized biological area, (2) perform experiments, gather original data, apply statistical analysis, and assess data reliability, (3) contextualize their results within their field, (4) document their work in an Honors Thesis, and (5) publicly present and defend their findings.
