The Creative Writing MFA provides an immersive workshop-based curriculum focused on fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, highlighting both the artistic and technical aspects of writing while centering on students' creative output. The program actively supports innovative and cross-genre approaches.
This MFA curriculum prioritizes examining literary techniques and published works while fostering rigorous development of students' original compositions. Students gain extensive professional opportunities as authors, educators, and publishing professionals. Our accomplished faculty have earned recognition through major literary honors and leadership roles in national writing associations. The Creative Writing MFA features intensive workshops in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, concentrating on writing artistry and technical skill development through students' creative projects.
Completion requires 36 credit hours minimum, with at least nine credits dedicated to graduate writing workshops. Every student produces a full-length creative manuscript as their thesis, as the program does not offer a non-thesis alternative for Creative Writing students.
