Our doctoral program in education prepares graduate students to become innovative scholars conducting research that addresses the educational challenges faced by underserved linguistic and cultural communities in public schools. The curriculum immerses students in interdisciplinary theories and research approaches, with coursework and research opportunities that critically analyze educational practices in K-12 settings and other institutions impacting marginalized populations.
Our globally recognized faculty employ diverse frameworks from fields like anthropology, psychology, sociology, philosophy, linguistics, learning sciences, and cultural-historical activity theory. Through our PhD program, we aim to offer rigorous research training that explores learning and instruction across various contexts - from formal educational settings to diverse family and community environments.
Student must have: Bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, from an accepted university prior to the quarter for which admission is sought; Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities; 3.0 GPA or above.
English Language Testing
For those choosing to take the TOEFL, a minimum score on the paper-based TOEFL of 550, or 220 on the computer-based test, or 83 on the internet-based test is required for admission.
For those choosing to take the IELTS, a minimum overall score of 7 from the IELTS test is required for admission.
