This doctoral program equips students to investigate interdisciplinary aspects of learning, instruction, and curriculum design for culturally and economically diverse student populations.
The program's core emphasizes pedagogical approaches across disciplines, their intersections, and how each field preserves its distinct identity while sharing fundamental principles with others. This PhD curriculum integrates theoretical frameworks and research exploring interdisciplinary content, cognitive processes, learning theories, effective teaching strategies, multicultural pedagogy, evaluation methods, and technology-enhanced instructional delivery systems.
The Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching provides five Master of Arts programs: Curriculum and Instruction, Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Learning, Design, and Technology, Literacy Education, and Special Education, along with the Doctor of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching. Additionally, the Department offers graduate certificates in Foundations of Learning, Design, and Technology and I-STEM Education. For those pursuing Texas Teacher Certification, options include initial certification for Grades 4-8 in Mathematics/Science and English Language Arts/Reading/Social Studies through the Master's in Curriculum and Instruction, plus Texas Reading Specialist Certification.

Qualification Requirements

Required Degree - Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in the United States or have proof of equivalent training at a foreign institution.
Minimum GPA - 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) Departments may consider GPA of last 60 semester credit hours
Coursework - 18 credit hours in an area related to this graduate degree and at least 12 hours must be at the upper-division level.
Transcripts - Required from all institutions attended, international transcripts must be recorded/translated to English
Credential Evaluation - Required if you have earned university-level credit from foreign institutions. Submit an evaluation of your transcripts from Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) directly from the graduate admission application platform
