The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum covering the history, languages, literature, and sociopolitical dynamics of Russia, Central/Eastern Europe, and post-Soviet Eurasia. Encompassing half the world's time zones, this strategically located region serves as a bridge between Eastern and Western civilizations. It has experienced profound transformations across political, economic, social, and cultural spheres, particularly following the Soviet Union's dissolution. The program caters both to Russian language students seeking broader cultural context and those fascinated by the diverse cultures stretching from the Balkans to Central Asia's northern steppes. UC San Diego's REEES program brings together faculty from various departments, providing major/minor options with coursework in literature, history, media studies, linguistics, and social sciences. Participants can develop personalized research projects with faculty guidance and access the university's international study opportunities.
