The Asian Studies major offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that equips students for professional paths and graduate studies focusing on Asian regions, encompassing language, history, geography, political systems, and cultural studies beyond what a single-department major provides.
Learning Objectives: Graduates will exhibit broad factual understanding of East Asia's literature, humanities, historical developments, political systems, economic structures, geographical features, and societal contexts. This foundational knowledge stems from core courses including: Asian 200 (Introduction to Asian Studies: Approaches and Resources), Asian 342 (Literary Heritage of Asia), History 231 (Survey of East Asian History), either IHum 241 (Asian Humanities) or IHum 243 (South Asian Humanities), and either Poli 348 (Asian Political Systems) or Poli 385 (Asia's International Relations).
