Art History provides students with analytical perspectives on how artistic and cultural expressions have evolved throughout history and around the world. We enhance students' visual literacy, cultivate their writing proficiency, and ignite their creativity through studying artworks, artifacts, and architectural wonders that have inspired devotion, fueled revolutions, brought joy, or provoked controversy. Nearby institutions like the UD Library, Museums and Press frequently serve as hands-on learning spaces where students can hone their skills as art critics and museum professionals. Our curriculum covers diverse artistic traditions including American (encompassing Native American, African American, and Latin American), European, African, Asian, and Islamic art, along with material culture and architectural studies. Students can pursue interdisciplinary programs combining Art History with fields like Art Conservation, Anthropology, English, History, and various Languages, Literatures & Cultures. By exploring humanity's creative legacy, we prepare students to engage meaningfully with global cultures.

Studying Chinese opens doors to a civilization with five millennia of history and connects learners to 1.36 billion speakers worldwide. As China's global significance continues to grow, proficiency in Mandarin and understanding of Chinese culture become increasingly valuable assets in professional and business sectors. Our alumni pursue diverse career trajectories: some work as import/export specialists facilitating international trade, others serve as policy researchers analyzing data for strategic planning. Graduates find opportunities as educators, linguists, government professionals, international finance specialists, or continue to graduate studies for careers in international relations, academia, or legal fields. The growing demand in global commerce, advertising, and media industries offers additional avenues for applying language skills, especially when combined with complementary majors.
