The Department of Entomology provides graduate programs for earning M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in Entomology, with specialized research opportunities in diverse fields including: plant pathogen vectors carried by arthropods, insect behavior studies, biochemical and physiological research, biological pest control methods, chemical pesticide applications, ecological and evolutionary studies, integrated pest management systems, interactions between insects and plants, medical and veterinary insect research, molecular entomology, nematode studies, neurobiological research, pathological investigations, pesticide toxicity studies, pollination science, taxonomic classification, and urban pest management.

Qualification Requirements

For admission to the graduate program, prospective applicants must have a bachelor's degree with a major in Entomology, a biological science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a suitable equivalent. Regardless of undergraduate major, students must have had, or complete soon after entering graduate school, the following:

The equivalent of one year of course work each in general biology, general chemistry, and organic chemistry.
The equivalent of a one quarter course each in genetics and biochemistry.
The equivalent of 30 quarter units of life sciences other than entomology. Students who wish to specialize in insect biochemistry, insect physiology, molecular entomology, neuroscience, or toxicology may substitute additional courses in physical, organic, and biological chemistry, toxicology, and pharmacology for courses in life sciences.

IELTS - minimum acceptable overall score is 7 with no score less than 6 on any individual component. TOEFL - minimum acceptable scores are: 550 for the revised TOEFL paper-delivered test and 80 for the TOEFL iBT.
