The Department of Animal Science provides advanced degree programs focused on animal genetics, meat science, nutrition for various livestock, and physiological studies. Students have access to modern analytical labs and specialized animal research facilities. These state-of-the-art resources support both fundamental and practical research involving large animals, poultry, and lab animals. The department operates a fully equipped, government-approved meat processing facility dedicated to poultry and meat science investigations. Additionally, research facilities located 40 minutes from Lincoln support studies across beef cattle, dairy production, sheep, and swine disciplines. Graduate research extends to four university-affiliated agricultural centers and collaborates with the USDA Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, Nebraska.
