The UCLA Music Department provides Master of Music (M.M.) and Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) programs specializing in choral, orchestral, and wind ensemble conducting. As the sole California institution granting doctorates across all three disciplines, UCLA maintains intentionally small studios to ensure podium experience, close faculty guidance, and collaboration among graduate conductors. Beyond individual and group conducting lessons, the curriculum includes essential academic coursework in bibliography, musical analysis, notation, and performance practice, alongside full participation in a premier university ensemble program.
