The UCLA César E. Chávez Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies houses the second Chicana/o Studies doctoral program in the University of California system. Establishing this graduate program in Fall 2012 marked a pivotal moment for the department. Through graduate studies in the Chávez Department, students gain interdisciplinary research skills to push boundaries in the field, assume leadership roles in academia, and apply scholarly expertise to community service. Our interdisciplinary graduate curriculum introduces students to diverse theoretical frameworks, methodological approaches, technological applications, teaching strategies, and knowledge systems relevant to the scholarly examination of Chicana/o and broader Latino/a communities in the United States. Those pursuing graduate studies in Chicana/o Studies will develop critical analytical skills to examine Chicana/o experiences, historical trajectories, and cultural expressions within our interconnected global society, while contributing to the evolution of academic conversations in the field.
