The Department of Comparative Literature requires students to complete a minimum of ten courses in Renaissance Studies (available across multiple departments). This includes two semesters of the core Renaissance Studies seminar and three courses from two non-literature disciplines (like art history, religious studies, or history). Students must include at least three theory, criticism, or methodology courses in their overall coursework, with one course each covering poetry, drama, and narrative fiction. Additionally, one course must focus on ancient/medieval literature and another on Enlightenment/modern literature. A minimum of two courses must be completed with Honors standing. Students are encouraged to explore diverse courses while concentrating on one or two national or language-specific literary traditions.
