The Bachelor of Arts in French offers two specialized tracks: Plan I and Plan II, detailed below. The French/Francophone Studies in Literature and Culture program focuses on cultural studies, literary analysis, and specialized language skills like commercial French or translation. Students can concentrate on culture, literature, or language studies individually, or blend these disciplines to meet the requirement of seven upper-level courses, including one potential cross-departmental course approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
The Interdisciplinary French/Francophone Studies option connects French and Francophone scholarship with other academic fields. For the eight required upper-division courses, students may enroll in up to four relevant courses from other departments (such as history, art history, social sciences, political science, or media studies), in coordination with the Undergraduate Studies Vice Chair.
