The UCI Dance Department pioneered Dance and Technology research in the U.S., establishing one of the nation's first full-time faculty positions in this field. Since implementing our specialized motion capture studio in 1998, our students became some of the earliest worldwide to explore motion capture technology within dance performance contexts.

We've consistently grown our Dance and Technology offerings at both graduate and undergraduate levels, with special emphasis on screen dance. The 2012 launch of the Experimental Media Performance Lab in the Claire Trevor School of the Arts Contemporary Arts Center created a versatile venue merging choreography, video, and technology with adaptable audience configurations.

Our Dance and Technology faculty are internationally recognized for groundbreaking creative work, receiving major commissions across four continents.
