Those pursuing a PhD in Epidemiology typically aim for research-focused careers, frequently in academic settings but also potentially in governmental or corporate sectors. Earning this advanced degree requires proving proficiency in fundamental training, understanding contemporary scientific developments in one or more fields, and demonstrating the ability to generate significant new knowledge within epidemiological specialties. Our program typically takes four to five years to complete.
The PhD curriculum begins with a structured approach. The initial year primarily focuses on mandatory coursework in epidemiological and biostatistical methodologies. As students progress, they gain increased flexibility to select optional courses and engage in specialized or self-directed learning with faculty advisors. A minimum enrollment of twelve (12) credit units each quarter is mandatory for all doctoral candidates.
