The Business Law specialization equips students with essential knowledge to thrive as corporate attorneys in international finance. UC Davis law alumni specializing in Business Law pursue careers in legal firms, businesses, consulting and accounting firms, and nonprofit entities worldwide. Students first master core principles such as business organizations and federal tax law before choosing from diverse upper-level courses covering securities law, corporate taxation, finance, antitrust regulations, governance structures, insolvency law, and commercial transactions. Practical application is emphasized through a business-planning workshop where participants create legal business documents.
Renowned for hands-on legal training, UC Davis School of Law provides multiple avenues for students to acquire real-world experience that supplements academic studies. Numerous externships in labor law, tax policy, legislation, or judiciary roles help develop crucial drafting, analysis, and bargaining competencies. Moot court contests offer distinctive platforms to hone litigation and argumentation techniques. Students can further enrich their learning by joining student groups or contributing to publications—the Law School supports about 40 student associations and five academic journals.
