The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures provides an undergraduate program focused on East Asian Religion, Thought, and Culture. Understanding philosophical and religious traditions is essential for grasping numerous facets of East Asia's varied cultural landscapes. This program aims to educate students in these traditions by building expertise in textual analysis, language skills, and cultural knowledge of East Asian communities, while also exploring how these traditions intersect with and enhance broader humanities studies.
Departmental majors come from diverse academic backgrounds, with many pursuing dual degrees across a wide range of disciplines such as anthropology, applied mathematics, architecture, art history, studio arts, Asian studies, business administration, comparative literature, computer science, economics, English, linguistics, media studies, molecular biology, political economy, political science, psychology, rhetoric, and performing arts.
To be considered for admission to UC Berkeley, international applicants must:
finish secondary school and
earn a certificate of completion, which allows admission to a university in their home country or country of graduation
The university requires further study, either completion of the two-year A-level program with a minimum of three academic exams, the IB diploma program, or another similar academic curriculum.
For (IBT) minimum score of 80 or better, Paper-based test (completed prior to Oct. 2017): Minimum score of 550 or better, Revised paper-delivered test (completed Oct. 2017 or later): Minimum score of 60 or better, (IELTS) Accepted with a 6.5 or better band score (academic modules)
