The Celtic Studies Program offers an academic degree within UC Berkeley's Department of Scandinavian, uniting scholars and students passionate about Celtic cultures, languages, literature, and history.
This major provides comprehensive knowledge about Celtic languages and cultures while establishing proficiency in one or more Celtic tongues (including modern Irish or Welsh, with options for Old/Middle Irish, Breton, and Medieval Welsh). Beyond mandatory language coursework and core requirements, students must focus their studies within a chosen discipline such as anthropology, art history, comparative literature, linguistics, history, Scandinavian studies, or related language/literature fields.
Open to both incoming freshmen and transfer students, the non-impacted Celtic Studies Program enthusiastically welcomes all students with an interest in Celtic scholarship.
