Berkeley's undergraduate architecture program culminates in a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. This curriculum blends mandatory environmental design and architecture classes with the flexibility to pursue diverse individual academic paths. Core courses deliver a comprehensive overview of architecture, while specialized studies allow students to focus on specific areas such as architectural design and visualization, building technologies and performance, or architectural history and cultural studies. Beyond providing a solid liberal arts foundation, the program develops pre-professional skills suitable for entry-level architecture positions, graduate studies in architecture, or advanced work in related environmental design disciplines.
Alumni frequently pursue professional degrees in architecture or allied fields, while others enter careers in architectural firms, construction, public sector roles, or industry. Significant employment possibilities also exist in community development, especially in underserved areas lacking professional architectural services. The program's primary objective is to build a robust educational foundation adaptable to various career trajectories, ensuring graduates can navigate evolving professional landscapes with agility.
