The Department of Architecture holds membership in the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and offers a Bachelor of Architecture program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. This program educates future architects at both professional and pre-professional levels.
Across the U.S., nearly all state licensing boards mandate graduation from an accredited professional degree program as a fundamental requirement for architectural licensure.
The five-year BARCH professional degree program, comprising 162 credit hours, leads to a Bachelor of Architecture degree. It equips students for architectural practice while also serving as foundational training for related design professions. After completing required internship hours, BARCH graduates qualify to take the Architect Registration Examination, which must be fully passed to obtain architectural licensure. The curriculum encompasses architectural design, history, structural systems, building technology, environmental controls, visual communication, professional practice, and integrated systems. Elective courses allow students to pursue specialized interests, develop focus areas, or complete minor programs. Participation in an approved international study semester is mandatory. All incoming architecture students at the University automatically enter this five-year professional degree track leading to the Bachelor of Architecture.
