The Bachelor of Architecture is a five-year professional program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), meeting the educational requirements for architectural licensure in most states. This degree prepares students for professional registration and practice in architecture. The curriculum comprises 170 credits divided into three key components: core architectural courses, liberal arts studies, and elective options. The 95-credit core curriculum, concentrated in the first three years, provides foundational training in architectural design, construction methods, visual communication, and design theory. Liberal arts requirements total 48 credits, including 12 credits from the School of Architecture (ARCH-151, 152, 251, and 252), plus 6 credits each in English, cultural history, science, and social science. Students complete an additional 12 liberal arts electives from the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The program also includes 15 credits of professional electives from architecture courses and 12 institute-wide electives from any department. During their final four semesters, students can tailor their education by strategically choosing electives that align with their professional interests, leading to a customized fifth-year degree project. This flexible approach allows specialization in areas like design, historic preservation, construction technology, architectural theory, urban planning, or project management. The culminating degree project represents an intensive design exploration supported by research, completed under the mentorship of faculty advisors selected by the student.
